Not every business in the glass trade cuts glass. There are businesses that buy and sell, hold stock and have the work done by another workshop. In that case the optimisation screen is never opened and the centre of gravity of the software shifts. In software for glass trading a different trio comes forward: catalogue, price list and quotation.
The catalogue matters even more here, because a trading business does not produce the product, it defines it. Writing the same glass under two names splits the stock in two; one runs out while the other still shows a count. Binding the name to a rule, so records with the same properties get the same name, is what accuracy of counting means in this setting.
The price list is the second leg. A customer buying in bulk and one buying a single piece do not pay the same figure; the price given to a dealer is different again. More than one list can be held and which list was used is written into the record. That is usually exactly what is meant by software for a glass dealer: per customer pricing, applied consistently.
The third is the quotation and its turning into an account entry. When a quotation is approved no new record is created, the same one moves into order state and the balance derives from it. Even without cutting the chain is the same: size, amount and customer live in one record.
Expectations on the stock side differ too. For a trading business what matters is how many of each product there are and where they sit, not the cutting plan. So warehouse location and stocktaking get used more, and optimisation not at all.
The supplier side enters the record too. Once it is written which supplier the glass came from, on what date and at what cost, the selling price stops being a guess. It is ordinary for the same product to arrive from two suppliers at different costs; which one was cheaper and when only becomes visible once the record accumulates.
That the structure stays the same is a gain for later. A business that does not cut today may buy a bench tomorrow; when that day comes the record does not change, only new screens start being used. That is already the difference between software for a glass workshop, a glass factory and a glass business: which screens are opened, not the record underneath.
